Mention ‘root canal treatment’, and many people shudder just at the sound of it!

Well, sit back and relax… It’s the solution, not the issue and will often solve the problems associated with agonising toothache or facial swelling.

If your tooth has been knocked out, heavily filled, cracked, or decayed, this may lead to pain, infection, or discolouration. If any of these symptoms occur, your tooth may require root canal treatment, also known as endodontic treatment or root canal therapy.

Root canal treatment is a highly specialised area of dentistry that typically involves multiple visits. As shown in the video below, the procedure involves removing and cleaning the infection inside the nerve of your tooth. On completion of your root canal treatment, a biologically compatible rubber material is sealed inside the root canal to prevent infection from re-entering. A filling, post, core, and crown are then bonded onto your tooth to strengthen it.

Around 85% of root canal treatments are successful. We use state-of-the-art electronic cleaning and measuring devices, which make your treatment much more comfortable, predictable, safer, and faster.

The alternative to root canal treatment is extraction. Often, it is better to save your tooth with root canal treatment, particularly if you don’t want to have a gap. Although it is often better to keep your natural tooth, implants, bridges, or dentures are alternatives if you still prefer to have your tooth extracted.

A dental visit can be scary and nerve-wracking and I can fully say that I was immediately at ease and comfortable when I stepped into the consultation room :) a lovely kind and personable approach from the doctor and as far as tooth extractions go - this was so quick and felt rather easy! 100% would recommend :)

Having cracked my front tooth over the weekend, I attended Heralds Way Dental Clinic and was originally seen by Maliha Ali. I was then referred to Dr Saqib Ali, who specialises in cosmetic dentistry and having been given the options to repair my tooth, I was given an appointment for three days later. The repair has been completed today by Saqib Ali assisted by his dental nurse, Esma. The result is fantastic. The service I have received from start to finish has been exceptional with a very professional, friendly and caring approach. Thank you to all the team, I am extremely grateful. GF

Lovely service — everyone is super friendly. I can't remember the name of our dentist, but she’s fantastic with all of us, especially our little girls (they're not scared of the dentist anymore!). Cara, the hygienist, is incredibly smooth and gentle — I honestly think I fall asleep during our sessions. Definitely recommend!

Really helpful and a lovely Dentist. I moved to this clinic, fairly recently, so this is only my second visit but so far impressions are very positive. I am particularly pleased that the clinic has opened up a separate treatment area, on ground floor level, as I have mobility issues and sometimes find climbing stairs difficult; well done Herald's Way Dental Clinic, thank you 😊
